With enchanting proportions, it was built in 1507 on the site of the small church of the Confraternita dei Fornari. It’s considered the best work of Antonio da Sangallo, a renowned architect of the 1500s. The realization was completed by Jacopo del Duca, architect and sculptor assistant of Michelangelo, to whom we owe the Dome with lantern made in 1582.
The sponsorship involved the following restoration works (December 2008 – December 2009): verification of the lead roofing slabs of the dome, control and replacement of the damaged parts related to the cornices performed in a workmanlike manner, revision of all fixtures.
