The name of the Obelisk comes from the Via Flaminia. It is the second oldest obelisk in Rome, it is 24 meters high, but if you calculate also the base reaches 34. Built at the time of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the twelfth century BC, the monument comes from Heliopolis in Egypt and was brought to Rome by Emperor Augustus. It was later lost and found in three pieces in 1587. The recomposition was entrusted to Domenico Fontana by Pope Sixtus V who had it placed in its current location.
Urban Vision has sponsored the restoration works carried out between 2005 and 2006, in particular: improvement of the physical characteristics of the stones of the base, cleaning and coating of marble with hydrowashing of the surfaces of the obelisk, until the finishing of the bronze parts.
