The Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin is one of the best Roman examples of medieval architecture. Inside its portico is the famous Mouth of Truth: this bas-relief is known throughout the world for the legend according to which anyone who tells a lie while holding their hand in the mouth of the mask will be mutilated by it. Even today, hundreds of tourists line up at every hour of the day waiting their turn to see the legend for themselves! We find ourselves at the crossroads between the Lungotevere and the route that leads to the Campidoglio and Piazza Venezia. A few steps away are the Circus Maximus, the Theater of Marcellus and the Roman Forum. The main offices of the Municipality and the Registry are also located nearby.
