Since September 2016, in a complex reform plan and reorganization of the structures of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, wanted by Minister Dario Franceschini, was born in Rome the Museum of Civilizations. Its establishment brings together in a single body four important national museums: the National Prehistoric Ethnographic Museum “Luigi Pigorini”, the National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, the National Museum of the Early Middle Ages, located in the monumental part of the EUR district and the National Museum of Oriental Art “Giuseppe Tucci”, still in its historic seat of Palazzo Brancaccio. To these are added the acquisition of the collection of the isiao, Italian Institute for Africa and the East, and the deposit of the historical-artistic heritage of IsMEO, Italian Institute for the Middle and Far East. The establishment of this important place of culture intends to manage, enhance and promote in a unified and innovative way archaeological and ethnographic collections unique in Italy.
The intervention consisted in the restoration of two large wall mosaics called “The guilds of Enrico Prampolini, located on the outer wall of the Museum of Science and “The Professions and the Arts” by Fortunato Depero, positioned on the wall of the Museum of Popular Arts and in the safety of the slabs in travertine and Carrara marble on the facades of the elevations.
